Meet Homer… the Puppy!
2 weeks ago, a new little bundle of joy wandered into our lives. Actually scampered, jumped, nipped and rolled into our lives. Homer the puppy arrived. I got him as a surprise christmas present for the girlfriend, but as you can probably tell, I gave her the pup a little early!
The girlfriend has been hinting at a puppy for a long time now and I decided that I better do the needful and sort one out.
I originally planned to get a puppy from the pound, but they didn’t seem to have one that was suitable. I feel bad about this, as I really would like to rescue all the dogs there. However, I had left it too late for a pound puppy this close to christmas(home visits etc. are needed… there goes the surprise…). Fortunately for me, I was talking to the lads in work about my predicament, and one of them(Mr Eugene Hanley, Legend) chimed in with news that his dog back on the farm in Galway had just had a litter of pups. Great news! So then, a beautiful Border Collie pup wandered into our lives.
Homer is now his name, although it didn’t start out like that, we went through about 20 names in 2 days before Homer stuck!
And boy does he have you watch him all the time! The little fella is fond of christmas decorations, teddy bears, rolls of wrapping paper, table legs, and pretty much anything else he can wrap his mouth around. We’re also not getting the hang of toilet training… as he still wont really go outside. You try to praise him when he outside and ignore and clean as soon as he goes inside, as all the books say but its not really working very fast. Apparently routine is the key. Hmmm… I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough!
We’re also restricted in where we can take him as apparently we have to wait until 14 days after his vaccinations. His second is due on the 27th of December. And as the house he’s staying in at the minute has other outside dogs, we can’t put him out at all. I’m sure this is slowing down the house training process!
They also certainly aren’t cheap! Though I’m sure I’m spoiling him as he’s my first! So I’m sure more posts about his adventures will follow but for now I’ll leave it at that!

Thanks Paul. Yeah the white mohawk on his face is probably the first thing people like about him. Plus things are a bit more stable now that we’re able to house train him properly after the second round of injections!
