Yeah - used that hill as a shortcut to the hostel, couldn't believe how many people were catching some sleep on it. Very funny. Yeah we weren't allowed into the hippodrome, but didn't really have any expectation of getting in. Had a nice look at the outside :) Munich is a beautiful city - would love to live there. This year was my 6th year at the fest, and it was as crazy as ever. Living in Munich makes it a little easier to get down to the fest. ;) €50/night is a bit expensive for a hostel, but being so close means that you can easily go home, rather than passing out on the hill behind the 'tents' . Btw. that picture is from the Hippodrom tent, which is well known for it's VIP's who go there. I know Playboy had their event there last Friday (not that I was on the list or anything).
