New House – Week 4 and 5

Well, another couple of weeks have passed by. And well… a lot of work has been done.

Starting with the biggest most obvious change – The wall between the kitchen and the dining room is now gone and held up by a nice big RSJ. And the change is huge and the advantages are immediately obvious. The room is now large and sweeping and a lot of light is shared between the rooms. The back door is all nice and blocked up, and with one other door being blocked up it allows us to really change the way the kitchen works for the better. basically, we’re going to change the direction of the kitchen, and we’ve adding an extra couple of walls to the kitchen to change the fact that it really only had 1 and a half walls for cabinets. Now, we have space for a very nice sized kitchen, and my plan for an American style fridge back to the fore!

Two other big jobs that have been on-going the last while have been the extra re-wiring, and re-plumbing. The re-wiring has been a focus of mine, cat5 going in everywhere and speaker cable and also, a better electrical system going in. We’re adding a large number of extra sockets, and moving a number of switches to allow the doors to open in a more room friendly manner. What the hell does that mean? Well, at the minute, the hinges meant that the doors have had to open into the room, and really into the space of the room. (more…)
